Among the central topics that business leaders analyzed during their meeting with Justin Thomas, the U.S. Consul General for the Yucatán Peninsula, the most prominent were the alarming state of insecurity and Campeche’s energy potential, revealed Gonzalo Hernández Pérez, Vice President of the Business Coordinating Council of Ciudad del Carmen.

He acknowledged that recent violent incidents recorded within the state—and specifically on the Island—have impacted the perception of tranquility and security in the region; this situation is also being observed at the national level and is a source of concern for U.S. authorities. Consequently, he noted that the Consul affirmed they are working with the Mexican Federal Government on matters of communication and strategy, emphasizing that Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo must be safeguarded.
