Civil Protection personnel evacuated dozens of residents from the communities of Pich and Bonfil, in the Municipality of Campeche, due to severe flooding that affected their homes and household belongings.
The affected residents were relocated to temporary shelters situated in public schools and at the Comisaría Ejidal (Agrarian Community Office), according to Guadalupe Chávez, Director of the Municipal Civil Protection Council.
Since last Thursday, heavy rainfall has been recorded in the state capital and in most of the municipalities, although the impact has been felt most acutely in the central region of the state—specifically in the area where the Edzná Valley is located.
The Municipal Civil Protection agency reported severe flooding in various sectors of the town of Alfredo V. Bonfil and in Pich. There have even been reports of road closures caused by water runoff flowing down from the hillsides.
In Bonfil, the Municipal Civil Protection Directorate deployed a comprehensive operation focused on relief, prevention, and cleanup, with the aim of safeguarding the physical safety and property of the affected families. Efforts were concentrated primarily on 30th, 32nd, and 36th Streets, where the most significant damage was recorded.
Emergency personnel provided direct support to vulnerable populations, while municipal officers assisted families in moving appliances and personal belongings to higher ground. They also coordinated the evacuation of residents whose homes had been damaged, safely transporting them to relatives’ homes or to the Comisaría Ejidal—a facility that had been pre-designated and stocked with sleeping mats for this purpose.
All of the affected residents have received assistance from public civil protection and social welfare agencies. Although most residents intend to return to their homes, authorities have advised them to delay their return, as heavy rains are expected to continue over the coming hours.
