Mother and Son Shot in Champotón Face Death Threats

31

The two individuals who were shot in the Las Brisas neighborhood of Champotón have received death threats and allegedly fled a municipality located further south than the area where they were wounded, according to unofficial reports.

It also emerged that, at present, no arrests have been made; the case is being investigated by personnel from the Campeche State Attorney General’s Office (FGECAM) on charges of aggravated assault, along with any other charges that may arise.

For its part, the Secretariat of Citizen Protection and Security (SPSC) confirmed that one of the injured victims sustained a wound to the arm.

The victims were identified as a mother and son—aged 53 and 28, respectively—and were transported to a private clinic, apparently under police protection.

The attack took place on the night of Sunday, May 17, at approximately 9:00 p.m., at the intersection of 20th Street and 25th Street within the aforementioned neighborhood.

The SPSC reported that the attack was carried out by a single assailant, although unofficial accounts suggested that he acted in complicity with a second individual who was driving a red pickup truck, in which the pair subsequently fled the scene.
