Children’s Day: More than 19,000 children in Campeche live with disabilities or mental health problems

According to the State Population Council (COESPO) and statistics from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), in the state of Campeche, approximately 19,500 children between the ages of zero and 14 suffer from some disability, limitation, or live with a mental health condition, representing 8.5 percent of the child population in that age range.

The 2026 Annual Report on the Situation of Poverty and Social Backwardness from the Federal Ministry of Welfare estimates that 229,380 children between the ages of zero and 14 reside in the state, representing 23.93 percent of the state’s population.

Homelessness in the capital could exceed 120 cases.

5,445 children live with vision, hearing, mobility, memory, concentration, self-sufficiency, or communication problems, representing 6.25 percent of children in that age range. 10,537 children have some type of basic physical limitation, equivalent to 6.46%.

3,518 minors are part of the population with some type of mental health problem or condition, with boys being the most affected (2,163 cases).

The report underscores the importance of guaranteeing protection, health, education, and the right to play and grow up in a safe environment, especially in the context of celebrating Children’s Day every April 30th.
