La Chispa reports that influencer Julio César Fuentes Cruz, better known as Yulay, is trending nationally after denouncing extortion, generating concern among residents and visitors of Campeche. While Governor Layda Sansores and her team maintain that security is exemplary, this incident casts doubt on the reality on the streets.
The case in which influencer Yulay denounces extortion has shaken social media, as the content creator claims that officers from patrol unit 0731 demanded 5,000 pesos to return his vehicle registration. According to his testimony, they even provided him with an account number to make the payment, which worsens the situation.
Yulay, originally from Tenancingo, State of Mexico, posted on his social media: “Help! The Campeche State Police are extorting me.” He later shared visual evidence showing the unit involved and reaffirmed that he has videos proving the demand for money.
This incident is not an isolated one. Residents of Campeche have reported similar situations at checkpoints located in Kobén, Champotón, and Castamay. At these locations, drivers claim to have faced improper practices, reinforcing the narrative of influencer Yulay, who denounces extortion as a systemic problem.
While state authorities defend the work of the police, these types of complaints impact public perception. Citizens are beginning to question whether measures are truly being taken to curb corruption within law enforcement agencies.
High-profile cases like this affect not only local trust but also the perception of tourism. Campeche, known for its cultural richness and tranquility, now faces a significant reputational challenge with visitors and content creators.
Will there be an official investigation?
For now, it is hoped that the authorities will clarify the facts. Media pressure could force them to open a formal investigation to determine responsibility and prevent these acts from going unpunished.
