The Campeche City Hall and the Union of Bakers have announced the dates for the 2025 Hojaldra Fair, an event that promises to bring together 20 traditional bakeries from the region. The fair will be held on Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st in the IV Centenario Park, also known as San Martín Park.
The first 500 attendees will receive gifts from the participating bakeries, which will offer nearly 25 flavors of traditional puff pastries. A turnover of over a million pesos is expected, with each day potentially generating around 500,000 pesos in sales.
The representative of the Arturo Chávez Bakers’ Union, Antonio Balam, noted that these types of events are necessary to showcase Campeche’s best products and to support local bakers who face challenges due to rising commodity prices. “We’re not in the ideal season, so our sales have dropped between 40 and 50 percent,” he said.
Karina Dzul, Coordinator of Economic Promotion for the Campeche City Hall, assured that the bakers will have the necessary permits and that efforts will be made to ensure a smooth event. She also invited attendees to bring cash, as not everyone may have access to cash machines, and to respect the schedules and spaces assigned to each bakery.
The bakers present at the announcement encouraged the people of Campeche to consume local products so that the profits benefit the city. They emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses during these challenging economic times.
As the fair promises to be a sweet treat for visitors, attendees are advised to come hungry and prepared to try out the baking techniques of each family or business. The event is expected to attract a large crowd, making it an ideal opportunity to indulge in Campeche’s famous puff pastries and support local bakers.
