The state of Campeche registered the largest drop in economic activity nationwide, with a contraction of 10.6% during the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE) from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The report also places Quintana Roo among the states with the greatest decline, reporting a drop of 6.1%, along with Coahuila, which registered a decrease of 4.1%. In contrast, Yucatán was the only state on the peninsula to experience growth, advancing 2% during the same period.
The ITAEE, which measures the performance of sectors such as agriculture, industry, commerce, and services, also indicates that, on a quarterly basis, Quintana Roo had a slight decrease of 0.3%, while Campeche grew 0.7% and Yucatán 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.
Nationally, the states with the highest quarterly growth were Nayarit (5.7%), Oaxaca and Hidalgo (4.8%), Sinaloa (4.2%), and Tabasco (3.8%). Meanwhile, on an annual basis, Sinaloa, Hidalgo, Nayarit, Mexico City, and Tabasco stood out for their progress.
The report contrasts with previous years, when states like Quintana Roo led the country’s economic growth. For example, in 2022, Quintana Roo saw an increase of 17.6%, while Campeche and Yucatán were also among the best-performing states.
The data reflect a shift in regional economic dynamics, with a marked slowdown in some southeastern states and more moderate growth in others.
