Campeche, Camp., The president of the Congress of Campeche, the Morenista José Antonio Jiménez Gutiérrez, promoted an amparo trial in the face of the possibility that there is an arrest warrant against him, since he considers that he suffers political persecution, harassment, and institutional pressure from the state government, headed by the also Morenista Layda Sansores San Román.
The legislator made that decision despite the fact that last Sunday, State Attorney Jackson Villacís assured that there are no investigation files against him.
The conflict between 10 of the 16 Morena deputies and the president began in mid-November when the local Congress received the 2026 Economic Package that proposed in its Revenue Law the contracting of public debt for one billion pesos; Jiménez Gutiérrez publicly expressed his disagreement and proposed finding other alternatives. In the end, the debt was approved unanimously.
The problem worsened on January 31 when the board of directors that will preside over the ordinary period of sessions in February was elected; the slate proposed by Jiménez was rejected, as six legislators loyal to Sansores allied with Movimiento Ciudadano, PRI, PAN, PRI, PT and PVEM to appoint Paul Alfredo Arce Ontiveros as president.
During the opening session of the ordinary period of sessions on February 1, Deputy Antonio Jiménez said he was a victim of political persecution and accused the Sansores government of pressure.
That day, ministerial police surrounded the facilities of the Legislative Palace, and the version spread that their objective was to arrest the Morenista, who decided to take refuge in his offices along with the deputies who support him.
The fracture in the group of the cherry party worsened on February 2, when, in a reserved session, Morena, PRI, and MC approved a reform to the Political Constitution of the State to reactivate the immunity with the aim of protecting themselves from possible arbitrary detentions.
Jiménez Gutiérrez’s decision to go to the amparo came after the municipalities governed by Morena, seven of the 13 municipalities, announced that they would not validate the amendment that reactivated the jurisdiction.
In the municipality of Tenabo, in charge of the Morenoite Mariela Sanchez Espinosa, in the council session, the reform that restores immunity to deputies and public servants elected by vote or who hold positions of judges and magistrates; the MC councilors voted in favor.
To validate the reform, it is required that at least seven of the 13 municipalities endorse it and that the governor orders its publication in the official state newspaper for it to enter into force. In statements issued in Querétaro last Thursday, Sansores San Román assured that he does not persecute anyone and even declared that Deputy José Antonio Jiménez “loves him very much.”
