The digital newspaper Tribuna Campeche denounced the imposition of a judicial censor prohibiting it from publishing content related to the governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román.
The measure was issued by Judge Edelmira Jaqueline Cervera Sánchez, head of the Second Control Court of the First Judicial District, who also ordered the outlet to provide the information of its community manager within 48 hours to “verify” the content disseminated on social media.
The court ruling comes in the context of an ongoing criminal case against the outlet and its director, Jorge Luis González, for the alleged crime of inciting hatred toward the state governor, based on publications made between 2021 and 2025.
In response, Tribuna Campeche described the order as an attempt to inhibit any criticism or public exposure of the state government’s shortcomings, just ahead of Sansores’ Fourth Report, scheduled for this Friday.
As reported by the outlet itself, the judge imposed a fine of 5,657 pesos for violations of the judicial restriction. Given this situation, the publishing organization, Organización Editorial del Sureste, decided to suspend all publications related to the governor while the measure remains in effect.
“The most aberrant thing is that the judge stated that freedom of expression is not impeded, but care must be taken to ensure that the dignity of Governor Sansores is not harmed,” the outlet stated in a statement.
A few days ago, the international organization Article 19 expressed its concern about the use of the judicial system in Campeche to impose measures that violate the freedom of expression of journalist Jorge Luis González Valdéz and the aforementioned outlet.
