A Campeche education official denied allegations that job positions were being sold at the agency, stating that a man accused of illegal job sale was dismissed in 2024 and is no longer an employee.

According to Víctor Sarmiento Maldonado, head of the Campeche Education Secretariat (Seduc), Ariel Canul Ceballos is not a current official and was fired in November 2024 for failing to attend work. He also urged the State Attorney General’s Office (Fgecam) to investigate and punish those responsible for the alleged job trafficking.

“No positions are being sold here; they are being advertised as frauds,” Sarmiento Maldonado said, emphasizing that teaching positions can only be accessed through a legitimate system, while administrative and prefecture positions are assigned based on merit.

He also asked citizens of Campeche not to fall prey to the alleged scam, pointing out that there had been an attempt to transform the country’s public life since 2018 and that it was unfortunate that the education system, which shapes the present and future of the nation, was being affected.

The official assured that his agency is honest and has clean hands and that any fraud should be punished.

Meanwhile, Sarmiento Maldonado revealed that his secretariat had already invited those who were allegedly defrauded to file complaints with the Prosecutor’s Office and provided support to help them pursue their cases.

He acknowledged four complaints filed with the Prosecutor’s Office regarding these incidents and did not rule out further cases.

The allegations of job trafficking at the Campeche Education Secretariat are being investigated by the Fgecam, and Sarmiento Maldonado called on the agency to act expeditiously in the investigation.
