The perception of insecurity in Campeche has been increasing, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), which reveals an increase in crime rates between January and February of this year.
This trend aligns with the September 2024 National Survey on Victimization and Perception of Public Security (ENVIPE), which estimated that 36.5% of adults in Campeche considered their city unsafe.
As of March 2025, the perception of insecurity at the state level reached 63.1%, with the city of El Carmen perceived as the most unsafe, even surpassing the capital.
This growing sense of insecurity, defined as the population’s fear of being a victim of crime, contrasts with the efforts of local authorities to implement security projects.
Despite these efforts, Layda Sansores’s government has come under fire on social media for its failure to address insecurity and corruption, as well as its lack of attention to urgent problems.
Citizens have expressed their discontent through comments highlighting the lack of results and the neglect of fundamental problems in the state.
The persistent perception of insecurity and the growing distrust in the government’s ability to address it underscore the urgent need for coordinated and effective action.
Collaboration between security forces and the community is essential to reverse this trend and restore trust in state institutions.
