Taxi drivers in Campeche have accused InDrive and other unofficial transport services of unfair competition, claiming that these services are stealing their fares. However, operators of InDrive and mototaxis in Lerma argue that the issue is political, not economic.
According to these operators, the hunt against unofficial transport services has been initiated by taxi drivers themselves, not by state public transport authorities or the police. They believe that taxi drivers are more focused on political issues than on improving the quality of passenger transport services.
Daniel, an InDrive operator, denied allegations that they stole fares from taxi drivers during the Christmas holidays. He pointed out that some taxi groups use WhatsApp to coordinate rides and do not report all their services. Daniel emphasized that InDrive aims to provide high-quality service and be rated well by citizens, not to confront taxi drivers.
Ironically, some taxi drivers also use the InDrive platform to find fares at certain times of the day.
Mototaxis in Lerma
Mototaxi operators in Lerma explained that their service is limited to the town and nearby areas, with transportation costs ranging from 15 to 20 pesos. They also work as errand boys within the town and cannot leave the locality, even if offered attractive payments.
Agreement in Candelaria
In Candelaria, after taxi drivers closed streets on Tuesday, pochimovil groups agreed to provide services from 07:00 to 19:00 hours. This agreement, chaired by municipal authorities, aims to regulate transportation and avoid conflicts with taxi drivers.
The new official operating hours will be from 05:00 to 18:00 hours, with an additional hour allowed only in the colonies. Pochimoviles will have two official stops and are prohibited from traveling on federal and state highways or providing freight services to nearby communities.
An updated list of group members will be maintained to avoid unauthorized new units. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for February 10 to evaluate compliance with the agreements. Municipal police will enforce sanctions for non-compliance to ensure order in the provision of services.
