Campeche boasts one of the longest and most beautiful boardwalks in Mexico, filled with monuments, fountains, and paths perfect for exploring on foot or by bike.
The Campeche Boardwalk stretches over six kilometers along the coast. Opened in 2000 and renovated several times since, it features three tracks: one for cycling and skating, another for jogging or running, and a third for leisurely walks with family, friends, or a partner. This coastal boulevard is ideal for enjoying a peaceful walk, breathing in the sea breeze, exercising, reading a book, or simply relaxing. It is a testament to the city’s modernization.
Along the boardwalk, you’ll find beautiful viewpoints and a photo stop with the famous giant letters of Campeche, perfect for a souvenir photo. The walk is adorned with various monuments and statues, including the ‘Novia del Mar,’ representing a woman in love with the ocean, and the ‘Mayan Angel,’ a symbol of the boardwalk and the city. Other notable landmarks include the Obelisco a los Marinos and the Mujer Campechana. Historic cannons used to defend the city from pirate attacks during colonization and sea fountains called ‘Poetry of the Sea’ add to the charm, offering a first-class show.
Activities and Amenities
The Campeche Boardwalk is not just for walking; it offers several areas for exercise, including gym-type equipment, an inclusive exercise area, and even a free water park. There is a public dock for boarding and disembarking, a children’s playground with educational games, volleyball and basketball courts, and a skating rink. Surrounding the boardwalk are restaurants with sea views, souvenir shops, and bicycle rentals. The boardwalk is known for its cleanliness and excellent road safety education. On some nights, visitors can enjoy light shows and dancing fountains. Open 24 hours a day and free to enter, the boardwalk is a wonderful way to fall in love with Campeche.
