Industrial City, corruption of previous governments of Campeche

They claim that the lands of the Industrial City were sold for a peso by previous governments and today they have more value.

Due to corruption in previous governments, which sold the lands in the Industrial City for a peso and today they have a super value, but never invested resources in infrastructure, Campeche lost the opportunity to develop the industry, as there was also no interest in attracting investments, and today it is only a ‘city of warehouses.’

According to industrialists from the state capital, when the Industrial Park was created, most of the lands were granted on loan by the government in power, and a deadline was given to the entrepreneurs to build a warehouse.

However, sadly, many of the lands in this site today look abandoned because those who requested them on loan never did anything, and now that they are owners, they have them available to do business at any time, with a super value.

“They didn’t take advantage of it and the objective that was set at that time was not fulfilled. The industrial sector needs to be reorganized because that Industrial City is disorganized,” said Sergio Pérez Barrera, president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) in Campeche. Regarding the supposed construction of a supply center on the site, the businessman revealed that one or two owners of that land appeared overnight, but there is only machinery, with no signs that this project will be executed.

“There are many who today are owners of land that they might have bought for a peso and now have it valued at 10 pesos. They were given on loan, and at the end of that period, they acquired them and paid the government in power at low prices,” he stated.

Campeche lost the opportunity for industrial and economic development because there was never any interest from previous governments to attract investments or companies, and they never invested in infrastructure to leave it as it should be an industrial city.

“That is not an industrial city, it is a city of warehouses. Many years ago, during the six-year term of Abelardo Carrillo Zavala, a development pole was created that was supposedly going to be the industrial zone of Campeche, and what happened? The following governments kept many lands and properties, and it was never done,” lamented the Canacintra leader.
