CAMPECHE – Two men on a motorcycle stole the handbag of a woman who was leaving a 24-hour store on Francisco I. Madero Avenue.
When the woman reported the incident to the police, she identified herself as an active agent of the State Attorney General’s Office and mentioned that her service weapon was in the bag.
Despite a city-wide operation, the suspects managed to escape.
The incident occurred as the woman was leaving a 24-hour store at the intersection of Francisco I. Madero Avenue and 14th Street.
Unaware that she was being watched by two men on a motorcycle, she was stopped and robbed of her handbag.
When the woman resisted, she was pushed, and as she fell, the duo took advantage of the situation to flee towards Gobernadores Avenue.
Witnesses attended to the woman and attempted to stop the suspects, but lost track of them once they reached Uruguay Street.
While the woman reported the incident to emergency numbers, police officers arrived minutes later.
The victim identified herself to the officers as an active member of the Prosecutor’s Office and highlighted that her 9mm service weapon was in her handbag.
After hearing the woman’s statement, an operation was conducted in the city along with Ministry agents.
They patrolled the neighborhoods of Guadalupe, San Francisco, the boardwalk, and nearby areas.
During the operation, police detained a couple on a motorcycle matching the description given by the victim at the intersection of 16th Street and Ponciano Arriaga.
However, upon inspection, they did not find the stolen items, and the couple had an alibi that did not link them to the robbery.
Meanwhile, on the city boardwalk, police inspected around 15 motorcycles but did not locate the suspects. The case was reported to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) as a violent robbery.
The suspects were also identified as the perpetrators of multiple robberies at 24-hour stores and pharmacies in recent months.
