Ejido expropriated in Campeche for Mayan Train

The president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, issued a decree by which he expropriates for public utility the surface of 34, 22 and 68 hectares of the ejido “Cinco de Febrero”, located in the municipality of Champotón, Campeche, in favor of Fonatur Tren Maya.

According to what was published, the Institute of Administration and Appraisals of National Assets (Indaabin) determined that the total amount of compensation for such lands amounts to 5 million 774 thousand 893.21 pesos based on the commercial value of the surface to be expropriated.

In the same way, it was indicated in the document that a hearing guarantee was granted to the representation body of the ejido “Cinco de Febrero”, since they were notified of the expropriation request, the establishment agreement and the real surface to be expropriated, without making statements regarding the expropriation procedure in the granted term

For this reason, “the surface of 34-22-68 hectares (thirty-four hectares, twenty-two areas, sixty-eight centiareas) of which 17-06-94 (seventeen hectares, six areas and ninety-four centiareas) are grazing lands and 17-15-74 (seventeen hectares, fifteen areas and seventy-four centiareas) are temporary of the ejido “Cinco de Febrero”, to allocate it to the construction of railway infrastructure works, operation of the Tren Maya Project and its complementary works.

According to what was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), through the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), it was by means of a presidential resolution published on January 18, 1963, that the town “Cinco de Febrero”, municipality of El Carmen (formerly Champotón), state of Campeche, was given the surface of 32 thousand hectares.

Said resolution was executed on August 31, 1990; On December 7, 1981, the Organic Law of the Municipalities of said entity was published in the official newspaper of the state of Campeche, which establishes the free municipalities in which the state is divided, among them, that of Champotón; and by means of a general assembly of ejidatarios of August 28, 1994, the delimitation, destination and assignment of lands of the ejido “Cinco de Febrero” was determined.

In this context, the Sedatu recalled that for the construction of the Tren Maya, the inhabitants will be integrated into the work and its benefits and the rights of way that are not yet available will be managed through agreements with the owners of the respective lands.

Likewise, beneficial agreements will be sought in cases where the federal property routes are invaded and the approval of the communities and original peoples will be requested through consultations.

The Tren Maya is the most important infrastructure, socioeconomic development and tourism project of the current six-year term. It will have a route of 1,525 kilometers, it will pass through the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo and it will interconnect the main cities and tourist sites of the Yucatán Peninsula.

The Tren Maya is a project aimed at increasing the economic spill of tourism in the Yucatán Peninsula, creating jobs, promoting sustainable development, protecting the environment of the area by discouraging activities such as illegal logging and trafficking of species and propitiating the territorial ordering of the region.
