Tickets for the first trip, which will take place on December 16, from the San Francisco Station in Campeche to Cancún, Quintana Roo, have already been sold out.

A few minutes after the sale of tickets for the first trip of the Mayan Train was announced, all available seats were sold out, at a cost almost 20 times higher than initially budgeted.

The first route, which will depart from the San Francisco Campeche Station to Cancún, Quintana Roo, is scheduled to depart on December 16 at 7:00 a.m., one day after its inauguration.

The seats were put on sale at noon on Friday by the concessionaire company controlled by the Army.

However, users who wanted to travel in President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s flagship project were in for a surprise.

A few minutes after the Mayan Train announced the sale of tickets, it announced on its social networks that these had already been sold out for the inaugural run.

Even when entering the E-ticket system, the platform through which tickets are sold, the option to purchase them is no longer available.

Costs exceed what was announced

Although the purchase of trips for new dates is not available, the page revealed that the cost of these first tickets was 1,166 pesos in tourist class and 1,862 pesos for premier.

Previously, the National Tourism Promotion Fund (Fonatur) had published on its website that the fare for this transportation would be only 60 pesos for nationals and 80 pesos for foreigners.

However, access for this first transfer, which barely covers 47 kilometers of the 554 kilometers of the total route, was being offered at more than a thousand pesos.

The railway project is offering, for the moment, only tickets for tourist trips, and not for the entire population, as had been announced.
