The chimney-free industry will seek to launch a campaign to attract domestic tourists through advance sales and promotions of its services
The tourism industry seeks to develop its own ‘Sales Event for Tourism’ to stimulate the activity of its sector and accelerate the recovery of its companies.
The project seeks that the campaign similar to the annual sale of the end of the year be launched towards the end of June or the beginning of July, with the purpose of presenting offers in the national and international market for those who are in a position to make a trip in the coming months. Or they may even want to save their package for next year.
“We need the generation of business alliances, the extension of bank card terms to 12, 18 months without interest and other consumer loans and we are creating something that has been very successful, a ‘Sales Event for Tourism‘, a kind of travel outlet for generating income for companies, that we make presales of tourist services at a low cost that allows companies to travel during the year. We believe this can be successful, we are going to do it online and in person, “said Armando Bojórquez, president of the Association for Culture and Tourism of Latin America (Current) during a virtual meeting with the ministers of Tourism of Ecuador and Honduras.
In an interview with Forbes, he specified that the plan is still in preliminary stages, but will seek to be implemented in the coming months, towards the beginning of the second half of the year, for when there is more clarity of the offer of services that will be available. It will also wait to have the protocols defined by the authority for the operation of the tourism sector.
The promotion will promote the participation of national and international airlines, hotel chains, restaurants, car rental companies, shipping companies, and travel agencies. In addition, it will seek to collaborate with the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), which for 9 years has organized 10 editions of El Buen Fin.
“People will be able to travel immediately or pre-purchase 6 months or up to a year in advance. That would generate income for hoteliers, would give them liquidity to operate, “said Bojórquez.
Regarding the payment methods, he highlighted that practically 2 out of 3 trips are paid for in cash in the country, so he called on the financial sector to join the revival of tourist activity through promotions of months without interest, points, or bonuses.
The challenge: the confidence of tourists
Although the economic recovery in the country is expected to begin on June 1, travelers will take a little longer to regain confidence in being able to go out and do activities away from home and in spaces for interaction with many more people.
“The message should not be just ‘we want to open’, but absolutely convince tourists and governments, who cannot decree a state of trust; Trust must be earned, ”said Antón Costas, President of the Cercle d’Economia Foundation during a meeting with the President of the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara.
Therefore, the tourism industry will have to increase cleaning protocols in addition to
“Many hoteliers say ‘we are going to open in June’, it is good that they open but who is going to go? People without protocols are not going to go to hotels. No safe rules have been established, there is nothing published about the protocols or the training, “said Bojórquez.
According to the new traffic light to resume activities launched by the Federal Government, most tourist activities may be carried out in entities that are at medium alert level (yellow). However, until May 12, the entities that attract the most tourists in the country, such as Quintana Roo, Guerrero and Baja California Sur, were at the maximum level (red) and while Jalisco, one of the main destinations for flights from the US, was at a low level (green).
